Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) states that it is struggling to keep the Urgent Care Clinic on Stavanger Drive open 12 hours a day. As a result, NLHS has had to revert to a virtual-doctors-only service on several occasions. Additionally, it has yet to open its long-awaited urgent care clinic in Mount Pearl, due to a lack of staff.

The Government of Canada is investing $5.9 million in the Prince Edward Island–New Brunswick Interconnection Expansion Project. Funding will support engineering, environmental and regulatory work for new submarine transmission cables and grid upgrades designed to improve electricity reliability, meet future demand and strengthen the Atlantic Canadian power system.

New Brunswick announced the completion and acquisition of 13 new public housing units in Fredericton and Oromocto. The project supports construction activity and forms part of a broader provincial housing initiative that has delivered 200 new public housing units since 2023, with additional units under construction and in development.

Following the acquisition of Ravelin REIT by Halifax-based Clarke Inc., new owners of Brunswick Square are pursuing redevelopment opportunities to reduce retail vacancy and attract new tenants. Plans include offering competitive lease terms and exploring retail, educational, research, health, innovation and community-focused uses for vacant space in Uptown Saint John.

Nine provinces, including New Brunswick, have signed an agreement to expand direct-to-consumer alcohol sales across provincial borders. The measure is expected to create growth opportunities for breweries, wineries, and distilleries by expanding access to Canadian markets, supporting business expansion and helping protect jobs amid ongoing U.S. tariff uncertainty.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has increased the hourly wage for self-managed home care workers from $17.05 to $19.05, effective July 1. Workers in the sector say the increase does not close the gap with agency-employed caregivers and does not address issues such as paid sick leave, workers’ compensation coverage and other benefits.

BuildForce Canada forecasts continued growth in New Brunswick’s non-residential construction sector, driven by major infrastructure projects including the Mactaquac Hydro Dam refurbishment and NB Power investments. The Government of Quebec is expanding and modernizing the Charles-Le Moyne hospital in Longueuil. The $672M project includes $28.2M in funding from a federal program. The project, which is scheduled to start this fall and be carried out until 2032, will employ over 200 people on the construction site.

Federal, provincial and municipal governments are investing more than $8.8 million in water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects in Sussex, St. Stephen, Harvey and Grand Lake to support housing development and municipal growth.

The Ville de Laval is investing $25M in modernizing and improving its recreational facilities. The funding will be allocated to about 40 projects within the city.

The Government of Quebec is investing $70M in creating a health centre at the Université du Québec en Outaouais in Gatineau. The project is expected to start in 2028.

C2MI is a quantum innovation centre in Bromont. The centre plans to hire 20 new employees, mainly researchers, following a $5.6M investment from the Government of Quebec.

The Collège supérieur de Sherbrooke, a vocational educational institution in the city of the same name, is closing indefinitely due to the Ministère not recognizing its training programs

Canfor Corp. has announced that it is permanently closing its Northwood pulp mill in Prince George in late 2026 following a wind down of the facilities. The closure will impact about 300 employees, but the company says it will look to redeploy the workers to other locations where possible. The company stated the closure was due to ongoing losses, high global supply and challenges securing fibre.

The Ekati diamond mine in the Northwest Territories appears set to shut down and enter receivership after attracting no bids in a court-supervised sales process. Its owner, the Arctic Canadian Diamond Company, entered creditor protection in May amid difficulties in the global diamond market. Insolvency firm PricewaterhouseCoopers will manage the receivership, including issuing layoff notices to staff.

Two Iqaluit group homes for children and youth in care are closing after Nunavut’s Department of Family Services ended their contracts. The homes were run by the Angirraq Corporation, which says it is now concerned the seven children currently in its care will be sent to new placements outside the territory.

The Mosaic Company will spend more than $4.4M in wetland restoration across Saskatchewan through a 10-year agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada. Under the partnership, Ducks Unlimited Canada will identify, design and implement restoration projects in priority areas, focusing on locations that provide the greatest benefits for waterfowl, wildlife and local communities.

The St. James Assiniboia Pioneer Association is planning to revitalize the site of Grant’s Old Mill, a replica flour mill in Winnipeg that has been closed for two years. The organization is trying to raise $850,000 to repair the mill, but is also planning an amphitheatre and festival space, an interpretive building, artisan market, and café.

The Government of Alberta is providing an additional $16M through the Emergency Family Violence Services program to enhance support for agencies assisting individuals affected by domestic violence. The new funding streams will support operational costs for agencies, promote collaboration among service providers, and address urgent facility upgrades. Applications for the new funding will open in September, with implementation expected by spring 2027.

The Government of Alberta is moving forward on seven new elementary and junior high schools in Edmonton, Calgary and Chestermere. Together, the schools will accommodate more than 6,100 students and help meet growing demand caused by rising student enrolment. The projects are valued at more than $351M and are scheduled to open for the 2028-29 school year.

Construction has begun on Charlottetown’s new $3‑million multi-sport artificial turf field, a project expected to be completed in September that will expand recreational capacity, increase field availability and support growing demand from local sports organizations.

New Brunswick’s construction industry reports demand for skilled trades workers is at an all-time high as population decline and an aging workforce intensify labour shortages amid strong demand for housing and infrastructure projects.

The Centre de services scolaire de la Vallée-des-Tisserands started construction on an elementary school in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield's La Baie area. The school is expected to accommodate over 400 students by 2028.

The Centre de services scolaire des Patriotes started construction on a new elementary school in Belœil. The Government of Quebec is contributing over $30.5M in funding to this sustainable project. The school is scheduled to open in 2028.

The Biosphère, a nature museum in Montréal, will receive $27M over three years to support its operations. The investment is funded by the governments of Canada and Quebec and the Ville de Montréal.

The Société du parc industriel et portuaire de Bécancour announced a $200M investment in developing and expanding its infrastructure. The Government of Quebec funded the entire investment.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that about 45K hectares of Crown land in northeastern B.C. will be protected for the next 10 years to help protect caribou habitat and boreal ecosystems within Treaty 8 territory. The measure is expected to be an interim measure while long-term planning discussions continue.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that it is expanding the BC Timber Sales Value-Added Manufacturing Program by providing dedicated timber supplies to custom cutters and processors. Custom cutters are manufacturers without their own sawmilling facilities that produce specialty products and there are about 250 people employed in these operations across B.C.

The Government of Canada has announced over $8M in Regional Tariff Response Initiative funding through Pacific Economic Development Canada for four Surrey businesses to help them boost productivity and expand their markets. The funds support automation and advanced manufacturing equipment to help these businesses increase productivity and create jobs.

Poulet Rouge, a Quebec-based restaurant chain, has opened a location at Mapleview Centre in Burlington. The chain is also planning locations at CF Lime Ridge in Hamilton and in Stoney Creek

The former Child Development Centre in Whitehorse, vacant since 2021, is scheduled for demolition later this summer. The work is expected to take six to eight weeks once it gets underway.

Mountain High, a cannabis shop, is scheduled to open in Haines Junction in September. It is the first such store in the small community, where residents currently need to travel an hour and a half to Whitehorse for legal cannabis.

Construction is nearly complete on Aqqusariaq, Nunavut’s first addictions and trauma treatment centre. The 24-bed, $83.7M facility is located in Iqaluit and was funded by the federal and territorial governments along with Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Arctic Fresh Group is in charge of the build and expects it to wrap up by the end of the summer.

Partners Verity Developments and Essex Developments are expected to begin construction on a new residential development this summer. The project will begin with the first two of 18 planned homes in Estevan's Meadows subdivision. The development aims to address local housing shortages and support growth related to power, nuclear, and industrial projects. City council has also approved land for two 12-unit apartment buildings, with further approvals required before construction can begin.

The Veterinary Medical Centre (VMC), a clinic connected to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, will be suspending its wildlife program indefinitely as it conducts a review. The review will examine several factors, including funding, biosecurity, and support service capacity.

Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. recently received two building permits from the City of Regina. The permits include $24M for the construction of a retail and wholesale-style department store and $1.4M for a gas bar. The new location will be Costco's second store in Regina and will be located in the Westerra neighbourhood. An opening date has not yet been announced.

Stella’s, a Winnipeg restaurant chain, is planning to open its fourth café in the city in November 2026. The 30-seat café will be located near the downtown Portage and Main intersection and will employ 12-15 people.

Toy retailer Toys “R” Us is closing both of its Winnipeg stores after entering creditor protection earlier this year. The company announced the closure of the Transcona store in June and the Polo Park store in July, though a specific closing date has not yet been given.

FP Newspapers is ending its distribution of flyers and community newspapers, resulting in an unspecified number of layoffs. Printer TC Transcontinental is now shipping flyers directly to households through Canada Post rather than as inserts in newspapers such as the Winnipeg Free Press. The change will mean a loss of newspaper revenue, as well as the end of the free weekly paper Community Review. Two of the Review’s four staff have been offered jobs at the Free Press.

As the Manitoba Institute for Trades and Technology winds down its operations, 46 employees have been laid off and more than 70 have resigned. The post-secondary institution announced in January 2026 it would be closing due to financial challenges. Red River College Polytech will take over its south Winnipeg campuses and 19 of its programs beginning in fall 2026.

The City of Thompson and the Thompson RCMP have introduced a new crime suppression unit, supported by $250,000 from the provincial government. The unit is staffed by four RCMP officers who focus on responding to calls in the city’s downtown areas.

The Thames Valley District School Board in London is eliminating 34 early childhood educator positions and about two dozen education assistant positions, including roles held by staff who support special-needs students

According to Statistics Canada, youth employment in Saskatchewan increased by 2.6% (+2,400) in June 2026 when compared to the previous year. At the same time, the province's youth unemployment rate fell to 11.1%, the third lowest among the provinces and below the national rate of 12.7%.

A 45-space day care in Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighbourhood has been forced to close due to a fire in an adjoining apartment building. The Cornish Child Care Centre has not given a timeline for reopening, but parents have received emails advising them to find other arrangements.

Les Serres Toundra, a cucumber grower, is receiving $10M from the Government of Quebec to build a new facility in Saint-Félicien. The total project cost amounts to $76M.

Nearly 100 wildland firefighters from the Yukon are currently working in the Northwest Territories, battling blazes near the communities of Wrigley and Fort Smith. This includes two 20-person units from Yukon First Nations Wildfire as well as 27 firefighters and a number of other staff from Yukon Wildland Fire Management. Their deployments are expected to last until July 21.

Prairie Junction RV Resort in Stettler announced an expansion project which will feature various themed glamping rooms; accommodations are expected to open in winter 2026.

The City of St. John’s has awarded a contract for the construction of a new $19.4‑million fire station in Goulds. The facility will support 24/7 career firefighter service, improve emergency response capacity and create construction-related employment through 2028.

Meubles Nouveau Concept, a furniture manufacturer in Mirabel, will permanently close in July. As a result, 22 people will lose their jobs.

ArcelorMittal, a steel producer, is suspending operations at its Coteau-du-Lac site for at least six months due to tariffs and a difficult economic climate. The shutdown, scheduled for August 17, will result in the loss of 44 jobs.

Lovo, an egg processor and wholesaler, is modernizing its facilities and building a new plant in Saint-Hyacinthe to triple its production as part of a $100M project. The Government of Quebec is contributing $1.6M in funding and a loan of up to $20M.

The Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis hospital, in the city of the same name, is receiving $47M from the Government of Canada to modernize its facilities. The project is aimed at expanding and reorganizing the operating rooms, as well as the endoscopy and logistic support units.

The Government of Canada is investing $103.5M in the construction of a new hospital complex at the Enfant-Jésus hospital, which is expected to be completed in 2031

A franchisee of Jack Le Coq and Pizza Salvatoré will open both restaurants in the Neufchâtel area of Québec in August

The Municipalité de Lamarche is receiving $3.8M in funding from the Government of Quebec to modernize its community, administrative, and fire safety infrastructure.

The Government of Quebec will invest $145M in modernizing the emergency department and building a psychiatric centre at the Saint-François-d’Assise hospital in Québec. The latter will be delivered in February 2031, and the entire project will be completed in the spring of 2032.

In October, the Saint-François-d’Assise hospital in Québec will start construction on a psychiatric emergency department, which will replace the one at the Enfant-Jésus hospital. The $27.7M project is receiving $13.9M in federal funding, and it will be delivered in the spring of 2028.

The Government of British Columbia has provided the City of Fernie with $200K through the Local Government Development Approvals Program to support the digitization and modernization of its planning and development information management system.

The City of Campbell River and Wei Wai Kum First Nation have signed a Municipal Service Agreement to provide municipal services to Wei Wai Kum First Nation lands. The new agreement provides a framework for infrastructure planning and growth for the region.

Pallet Coffee Roasters opened a new location on Yukon Street in Vancouver on July 9.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that two new involuntary care facilities will be opening in Surrey and Prince George. In Prince George, a $92M 72-bed facility will replace the former youth corrections facility while in Surrey, a site will be renovated for a $57M 60-bed mental health treatment facility. The provincial government expects both projects to open in 2028.

Western Forest Products has announced that it is extending the curtailment of its Cowichan Bay sawmill until at least September 2026. The curtailment has been in effect since May 4 and impacts 54 employees. Another 120 workers at Western’s Chemainus sawmill have been out of work since that mill was shut down in June 2025.

The Government of British Columbia has provided the City of Castlegar with over $158K through the Local Government Development Approvals Program to support the Infill Housing Program. The program utilizes standardized housing designs, modular and prefabricated construction and streamlined development approvals to make it easier for builders to move forward on housing projects.

The City of Nanaimo has announced it will add about 900m to the E&N Trail by the end of the year. The project will cost roughly $550K and will be funded by the city.

Campbell River City Council has approved a $96K renovation project to modernize the Fire Dispatch Centre at No. 1 Fire Station. The centre provides dispatch services to many fire departments across the province. The upgrade includes additional space and technology.

West Point First Nation and Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation have completed two new community housing projects, creating a total of 26 new homes. Ten of the homes are located in Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation and 16 in Hay River.

Staff at the Qulliq Energy Corporation have voted to accept a new contract with the Nunavut utility. The four-year deal includes wage increases totalling 18% and improvements to continuing services bonuses and Inuktitut language allowances.

The Government of Canada is spending more than $19.5M in nine active transportation projects across Saskatchewan to improve community connectivity and outdoor accessibility. Planned projects include new pathways and trails that will make it easier for residents and visitors to walk, cycle, and access recreational spaces.

The hospital in Dauphin suffered significant damage during recent flooding and is currently closed, its patients evacuated to other facilities. Early estimates projected it could take as long as 12 months to get the facility up and running again, but Manitoba’s premier advised media that timeline would be accelerated.

Adult and Teen Challenge is opening a thrift store in Flin Flon, part of its efforts to rebuild following a 2025 wildfire that destroyed the previous building. The organization has acquired a new space on Main Street and is hiring staff. Future plans include a new coffee shop along with the reopening of a residential facility.

The Manitoba Métis Federation has purchased the former National Research Council property in downtown Winnipeg, which includes an office tower and laboratory. The organization intends to move 70% of its 1,300 employees into the space and use the labs for research initiatives, nurse training, and eventually to house an MRI machine. It will also make lab space available to companies and researchers through a partnership with the Bioscience Association of Manitoba.

The provincial government has announced new supports for people impacted by severe flooding in Manitoba. In addition to three Disaster Financial Assistance programs, it has introduced a one-time Manitoba Flood Recovery Program for those in the hardest hit communities. These include 16 towns, villages, and municipalities in the Parklands, Western, Interlake, and Eastern regions.

Meta’s planned new data centre is expected to be operational before the new Greenlight Electricty Centre natural gas-fired power plant is built. Meta has the right to connect to Alberta’s grid and enter agreements with other suppliers. Capital Power announced a long- term energy supply agreement providing the data centre with 250MW of electricity by mid to late 2028.

Federal, provincial and municipal governments are investing more than $32.3 million in 17 water and wastewater infrastructure projects across central and eastern Newfoundland to improve municipal services, support housing development and strengthen community capacity.

The Government of Canada announced a $211M investment in constructing the Vaudreuil-Soulanges hospital in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The $2.595B project is scheduled to open in the summer of 2028, and it will have 404 beds.

The Cégep de Drummondville announced the construction of a new building affiliated with the Collegial Center of Expertise in Gerontology. This project is valued at over $8.1M.

The Government of British Columbia has created the over 2.2K hectare Meteor Lake Wetland Wildlife Management Area in the Omineca region and added 42 hectares to the existing Cranberry Marsh/Starratt Wildlife Management Area. These designations will support the protection of regionally significant habitats.

The Government of British Columbia has provided the Whispering Pines/Clinton Indian Band with $15K through the Age-Friendly Communities program. The funds will support a project to reduce social isolation among Elders, increase the accessibility of various activities and improve overall community resilience. The funds are part of a larger sum provided to 26 recipients across the province.

JJ Bean, a chain coffee shop, opened a new location on 6th Street in New Westminster on July 10.

The Moon, a new cocktail bar and restaurant, is opening on Powell Street in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood.

Trocadero, a pizza and steak house on Nanaimo Street in East Vancouver, closed on May 24.

Northern Development has announced the completion of replacement work for the Steelhead Park playground in the District of Houston through funding from the Community Places program. The new playground is modernized and has increased accessibility features.

Northern Development has announced the opening of a new intermediate downhill trail at Dragon Mountain in partnership with Quesnel’s Gold Rush Cycling Club. The club will build nearly two kilometres of trail with funding from the Recreation Infrastructure program.

The British Columbia Institute of Technology has launched the Digital Twin Innovation Hub. The new facility can simulate electrical systems using real-world data to allow industry partners to test emerging technologies before adopting them.

The Government of British Columbia has provided the City of Trail with $200K to streamline its development approval process and support future housing development as part of the Local Government Development Approvals Program. The program is providing $9M to 56 local governments. The city will use these funds to increase the ease of filing development and building applications.

Lake Country has announced the completion of the roughly $9M Beaver Lake Dam upgrade project. The project was funded by around $5.5M from the Governments of Canada and British Columbia. The new dam has a higher capacity and can better support the local ecosystems.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that 183 homes are opening or under construction on the Sunshine Coast. In Gibsons, 33 homes are opening at O’Shea Place in addition to a $2.8M childcare facility. In Sechelt, a new 94-home seniors’ rental building is opening at Greenecourt. An additional 56 homes are under construction at K’elexan Multiplexes on shíshálh Nation land.

Beedie has begun construction of over 1M sq. ft. of industrial space in Surrey’s South Campbell Heights Business Park. Beedie will begin construction of the more than 60-acre industrial development phase one this year and finish the first project in early 2028.

The Government of British Columbia has approved a planned tailings dam height increase for Mount Polley Mining Corporation’s Copper/Gold mine. This work comes as part of the Springer Pit expansion that will allow the mine to continue operating until 2033. The mine expansion will protect 430 direct jobs.

The City of Dauphin has hired a Winnipeg-based security company to conduct foot patrols in a six-month pilot project that began in early July 2026. Staff from Classify Security Group will work in conjunction with the RCMP, with a focus on the city’s downtown.

Manitoba Public Insurance is processing more than 30,000 claims related to storm-related damage in 2026, the vast majority connected to a June hail storm in Winnipeg. The Crown corporation has expanded mobile estimating services in various communities, including Brandon, Killarney, and Boissevain.

Construction has started on the Kiniski Gardens affordable housing development in Edmonton’s Mill Woods neighbourhood. The $23.6 million project will provide 68 new homes, including 34 three-bedroom and 34 one-bedroom townhome units located within walking distance of key amenities. The development is part of a broader initiative supported by the federal government's Housing Accelerator Fund, which aims to create more than 1,300 new homes in Edmonton, including approximately 950 affordable units.

The Ponoka Stampede expansion project to transform the west side grounds will begin soon. The project includes 16 new luxury suites, a second rooftop viewing area and new stadium-style seating. The project is to be completed before the 2027 Ponoka Stampede.

Alyze, a real estate developer in Laval, is constructing a building, in partnership with Cité Urbaine, which will include 54 housing units and commercial spaces in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2027.

Decathlon, a sporting goods chain, will open a store in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville this fall after purchasing the building that was formerly occupied by Toys R Us for $14.8M. As a result, the company will create between 60 and 70 jobs.

The Groupe Maxera, Triad, and Corporation IC3 consortium is starting construction on the Bohar residential project, which will include 275 rental units in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The first units are expected to be ready in the summer of 2027. The Government of Canada is contributing $86M in funding.

Les Habitations de la Lumière, a non-profit organization, will start construction on 43 affordable housing units in Baie-Saint-Paul. This $15.6M project is being carried out by Maisons Laprise, a home builder in Montmagny. The project will be delivered in July 2027.

The Victoria Foundation is providing nearly $6.2M through the 2026 Community Grants Program Vital Stream to support 243 charitable organizations across the capital region. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada has announced over $14.6M in funding to Simon Fraser University as part of its Discovery Grants program. The funding will be split between 49 researchers from six faculties.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has launched the Rural Organic Waste Diversion and Climate Resilient Communities project to help rural communities reduce their organic waste while supporting regional climate resilience. Eligible households can receive up to $175 towards organic waste management systems until August 2027.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that through the Family Law Centre program two new family law clinics will provide in-person services to residents of Kamloops and Prince George. To support this expansion of services, the centres will hire new staff and increase their overall capacity. The provincial government expects the new locations to open in late summer 2026.

Rogers Sports & Media announced that six radio stations were closed and 230 jobs were cut across its Canadian operations on July 7. Two British Columbia stations, 1130 NewsRadio and Sportsnet 650, were among the closures.

The West Vancouver Council has approved The Bay hotel plan which would redevelop three lots at the corner of Bay Street and Royal Avenue. The redevelopment would include a five-storey hotel with commercial shops on the ground floor. The Troll’s Restaurant, along with other businesses currently operating on the site, will close around December 31, 2027.

Saskatchewan’s first non-alcoholic retailer, Dry Supply, opened in Saskatoon on July 1. The store offers a range of products, from locally produced non-alcoholic beers to nationally recognized brands. Meta has announced plans to build a 1 GW data centre in Sturgeon County. The company expects the project to create 3,000 jobs during construction, and 300 jobs upon completion.

The University of King’s College is looking to cut 14 positions from its existing staff of 124. Jobs will largely be lost through voluntary retirements, and the goal is to cap the university’s 2026-27 deficit at $500K and balance its 2027-28 budget.

Self-managed home care workers in NL received a $2/hr wage increase on July 1st, moving the hourly rate to $19.05. The increase was previously announced in the provincial budget.

Poundmaker's Lodge Sober Living Spaces, a new second-stage sober living space, recently opened in Swift Current. The facility will receive $607,000 in annual funding and has 12 spaces that provides addiction recovery services that focus on preventing relapse through counselling and connection to community and culture. It is part of Saskatchewan's broader Action Plan for Mental Health and Addictions, of which 382 of the planned 500 new treatment and recovery spaces are available across the province.

Trans Mountain Corp. announced an agreement has been reached on tolls customers will pay to use the federal government owned Trans Mountain Pipeline. The Calgary based company expects to add up to 300 kbpd of incremental capacity by the end of 2028. The expansion project for the pipeline was completed in 2024 and saw the shipping capacity increase from 300 kbpd to 890 kbpd.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the City of Penticton have partnered to launch a new Regional Economic Development Collaboration to boost economic development in the region. The Government of Canada has announced that ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will be the strategic build partner for 12 new submarines for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project. The Government of Canada has selected German company Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems to build up to 12 submarines for the Royal Canadian Navy. The move is expected to create 100,000 jobs nationwide including roughly 50,000 jobs in the Halifax area.

Maritime Launch Services said Germany’s Isar Aerospace will spend about $100M to build a Spectrum rocket launch complex near Canso, Nova Scotia. Launches are planned by 2028 and up to 40 launches per year are planned by 2029.

Rogers Sports & Media has shut down NewsRadio 95.7 (CJNI-FM) in Halifax. The move is one of six station closures nationwide, totalling 230 jobs. Rogers Sports & Media continues to operate 44 radio stations in nearly 30 communities.

New Brunswick has selected Avenir Minerals to negotiate an exploration agreement for the former Lake George antimony mine. The proposed project supports critical mineral development and could create future employment and investment opportunities in the mining sector.

According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan's international merchandise exports totaled $4.7 billion in May 2026, up 36.4% from May 2025. This year-over-year increase was the second highest among Canadian provinces. In addition, Saskatchewan's real GDP reached a record $85.4B for 2025, an annual increase of 2.2%.

The Government of Canada is providing a total $10.2M to six Manitoba businesses increasing their use of artificial intelligence and other digital technologies. The funding is expected to help create more than 170 jobs in industries like agriculture, construction, advertising, and manufacturing.

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven has adopted a franchise model that could result in hundreds of new stores across the country, including in Winnipeg. At least eight 7-Eleven stores have closed in the city in the past two years, but the company’s vice-president confirms that new locations are coming.

The Government of British Columbia has provided $97K to Dawson Creek, $100K to the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and $200K to the District of Taylor as part of the $9M Local Government Development Approvals Program. The Treaty One Development Corp. is looking into building a 6,000-seat arena at Naawi-Oodena, its urban economic zone in south Winnipeg. The development group is spending $128,000 on a feasibility study, with $95,000 covered by the City of Winnipeg.

Cameco has temporarily suspended operations at its Cigar Lake uranium mine and McClean Lake Mill, both in northern Saskatchewan. Despite the interruption, workers and contractors remain on site and other work continues. The mine and mill employ 1,648 and 400 people respectively.

Headlands Environmental has opened the Shxwhá:y Soil Management Facility in Chilliwack at Shxwhá:y Village. The facility accepts soil from construction sites across the Lower Mainland and Metro Vancouver and separates it into useable materials. It is staffed in partnership with Shxwhá:y Village.

The Wildwood, a new housing development at Red Mountain Resort, has begun construction. The development will have 53 residences as well as an indoor-outdoor wellness zone. The Daly, an 89-home resort, also recently opened in the area.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has approved plans to borrow up to nearly $6.3M to fund the construction of the new Regional Search and Rescue Hall and Training Facility in Kamloops. The project is expected to have a total cost of over $9.4M, with the remainder of the funding coming from the City of Kamloops and Kamloops Fire Rescue.

The City of North Vancouver has announced that it is building a new nine-hole disc golf course at Eastview Park. The project has a budget of around $300K and construction is expected to take about three months.

SaskPower has received approval from the Canada Energy Regulator to build and operate two international power lines (IPLs) that will strengthen Saskatchewan's power grid. Pembina Pipeline Corporation has signed an agreement with the Governments of Canada and Alberta, Trans Mountain Corporation, and Alberta Petroleum and Marketing Commission to contribute expertise to a new 1M barrel per day crude oil pipeline connecting Alberta to Canada’s West Coast. Trans Mountain will be the lead proponent of the project and will be responsible for its construction.

A wet spring has made it harder for P.E.I. potato farmers to grow and harvest their crop and overall demand is down about 10%. The lone bright spot has been new potatoes, which remain a hot seller. Last year the potato industry was hit by a drought which had about a $500M impact on P.E.I.'s economy.

Renovations to the mineral spa at Temple Gardens Hotel & Spa in Moose Jaw are now complete. The $2.1M upgrades include new steam rooms, a cold plunge pool, a Kneipp vertical therapy station, outdoor saunas, a firepit relaxation area, and enhanced wellness amenities.

The City of Fort St. John signed a $75K Fire Protection Agreement with BC Hydro to provide fire protection services and emergency responses over the next three years to the John Horgan Dam and Generating Station.

The Kelowna Royal Canadian Mounted Police are expanding their Community Liaison Officer program to the city’s downtown. Under the new model, officers will spend more time working directly with the communities they serve and supporting safety initiatives.

The City of Penticton has announced the reopening of the Penticton Safety Village on June 28 following renovation work. The work was funded by the City’s Connected Communities Grant and added realistic intersections and expanded the camp’s programming.

Quebec Iron Ore, a mining company, has started operations at its new plant in Bloom Lake. The new $500M plant will enable the production of high-purity iron.

Palette Idéal, a company that manufactures wooden pallets, will invest $1.5M in expanding and modernizing its plant in Saint-Jérôme. The company’s production capacity will increase, and it plans to hire staff.

The Centre hospitalier de Granby will invest $11M in building a mother-child unit, which is expected to be operational in 2028. Santé Québec Estrie — CHUS and the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de Granby funded the project.

The Government of Yukon has hired a new engineering firm to take over the Nisutlin Bay Bridge replacement project in Teslin, but has not provided a timeline for completion. The cost of the project was estimated at $160M when it began in 2022, but was revised to $194M earlier this year.

On October 1, 2026, Saskatchewan's minimum wage will increase to $15.70 per hour. The province calculates its minimum wage by incorporating both average hourly wages and the Consumer Price Index (CPI), ensuring increases reflect labour market conditions and inflation.

Victory Lane Speedway near St. Adolphe is opening a drive-in movie theatre this summer, using a Jumbotron screen purchased for live racing events. The opening has been delayed due to weather but is scheduled for late July, 2026.

The Government of Canada has provided nearly $2M to the Tahltan Central Government to support the Nation’s participation in decision-making on major critical minerals projects in its territory. The funding will support the development of internal capacity to assess major projects and guide development.

The Victoria Native Friendship Centre has launched a training program to teach non-Indigenous individuals who work with them about Indigenous people. The program is funded by a $10K grant from the Victoria Foundation’s Indigenous Priorities Fund.

The Ashtrey, a new recovery resource centre, has opened in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The centre offers food programs and recovery meetings. The Government of British Columbia funds the centre through annual grants.

The Island Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre Association has announced that their two Vancouver Island location closed on June 30. The not-for-profit organization cited rising operational costs for the closures. The closure impacts 16 employees.

The We Wai Kai Nation is establishing the WWK Engineering Materials Testing Laboratory on Vancouver Island. The over $294K lab will provide testing services, field sampling and engineering support. The project is expected to permanently create three full-time and one part-time positions, and two temporary construction jobs. Island Coastal Economic Trust is providing over $73K to the project.

The Government of British Columbia, BC Hydro and FortisBC have partnered with Natural Resources Canada to expand the Energy and Conservation Assistance Program with a joint investment of $222M. The program provides home-energy retrofits to homeowners with lower incomes.

The Government of British Columbia has provided $72K through the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program to the Nakusp and Area Development Board to support the Agri-food Alliance initiative. The program brings together non-profit organizations to support local food systems and increase buyers’ connections to farmers.

The Government of British Columbia has announced that applications are open for the 2026-2027 future skills grant. The grant provides workers with up to $3.5K for short-term training to help them prepare for jobs. Eligible training includes sectors from the province’s Look West strategy such as forest health management, mass-timber construction, life sciences and mining.

The Government of Canada announced that it will provide nearly $164K to undertake restoration work on a section of the Battery Creek ravine in the Town of Devon. The funding was made available through the Natural Infrastructure Fund, and will improve flood resiliency and restore eroding slopes by planting around 2.5K trees. The Government of Alberta is also providing over $70K to the project.

The Government of Alberta announced that it will provide more than $7M to expand and modernize training at Lakeland College in 2026-2027. The funding will support improvements at the college's Vermilion campus, including an upgraded beef yard.

Amazon has announced that it received a building permit from the City of Edmonton on June 17 for construction of a $97M delivery station on 145th Avenue. Amazon expects construction to begin this year but has not yet announced when the new centre will begin operating.

The Government of Alberta has announced that it is providing $100M to schools to increase supports for students as part of nearly $355M previously announced in Budget 2026. The funding supports 221 new complexity teams that are intended to help address behavioural and safety needs. Additionally, the funds support targeted training for staff.

Port Saint John’s 2025 Annual Report highlights a record-breaking year for the port. It welcomed 83 cruise ship calls—the highest number in its history—and handled 239,364 TEUs of container cargo. The port also marked a major milestone with the completion of its $247 million modernization project in 2025.

A recent provincial report which surveyed 57 nursing homes in N.B. has found that a majority of provincial nursing homes want more staffing. Other concerns identified were the need for modern security systems and more protocols to deal with residents with aggressive or behavioural issues.

Evacuation orders have been issued for Walsh River, Tamarack Golf Course, Duley Lake and Throne Lake near Labrador City due to an active wildfire about 8km from town, prompting a state of emergency. The province is managing 17 active wildfires, mostly in Labrador, with additional resources deployed from NL and NB.

The Government of Canada announced over $250K in upgrades for sport infrastructure at Lake Banook in Dartmouth. The investment will support two canoe world championship events this summer and will benefit local athletes and businesses in the region.

The Government of Canada announced the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program in British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The program offers over $500M for retrofits, supporting construction and utility work for 35,000 homes.

A $65M social housing building in Charlottetown has opened with 82 new apartment units available to Islanders who are on the social housing registry. Tenants are expected to pay 25% of their income toward rent, while the rest will be covered by the province.

Geiger Energy Corp. has commenced its 2026 summer drill program at the Aberdeen Project in Nunavut’s Thelon Basin. The program will focus on the Loki and Tatiggaq targets, where previous drilling has identified promising uranium mineralization and alteration zones.

The Yukon government is launching a pilot land lottery in Whitehorse, offering eligible contractors a chance to build on one of seven residential lots in the Whistle Bend neighbourhood. The lots include five single-family parcels and two for townhouse or multi-unit development. Results will be announced by the end of July.

The Yukon government has hired COWI North America to take over engineering work on the Nisutlin Bay Bridge replacement in Teslin after ending contracts with the previous firm. The new scope focuses on developing a remediation plan for soil instability at the bridge abutments. No updated cost or timeline has been announced.

The federal government is providing over $2.2M to support eight tourism projects across Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon. The funding will go towards expanding infrastructure, promoting northern destinations, and supporting business growth and innovation.

The Town of Moosomin is planning several paving projects this year, including upgrades to Ogilvie Street and South Front Street, improvements to the Mike Schwean Arena parking lot, and a new paved apron at the Public Works shop. Work on the Mike Schwean Arena parking lot and Public Works shop will be completed over the summer.

eHealth Saskatchewan is committing $43.6M in IT infrastructure and operations for 2026–27 to enhance connected and accessible health care. The funding will include investments in network infrastructure and clinical technology for new facilities, upgraded devices for emergency responders, system-wide equipment replacement, and improvements to network infrastructure and digital health systems.

The Government of Saskatchewan is increasing the provincial minimum wage to $15.70 per hour effective October 1, 2026.

The City of Winnipeg has purchased three new fire trucks at a cost of $1.3M each, part of an $18M plan to add 12 new vehicles over the next three years. The trucks were manufactured in Winnipeg by Fort Garry Fire Trucks.

The City of Winnipeg has introduced a reserve fund to address vacant and derelict buildings. The Vacancy to Vitality reserve is funded through vacant building fines, and offers grants of up to $35,000 per unit to applicants willing to renovate buildings and create affordable housing.

Siloam Mission is reversing the planned layoffs of 16 staff after receiving additional funding from the Government of Manitoba. The Winnipeg non-profit announced the layoffs in May, explaining that it was facing a $4.4M operating deficit amid rising demand for services.

Cargo Bar, a Winnipeg bar built from a converted shipping container, is opening a second location in the city’s Southwood Circle development. The new Cargo Bar space is scheduled to open in early July and will hold up to 500 people. It is the first business to open at Southwood Circle, Winnipeg’s largest infill project.

Thompson Rivers University has signed a $8.3M agreement with Aramark, its food services provider, to expand the campus food options and add a dedicated food truck. The contract will continue Aramark’s operations for the next five years.

Protein Industries Canada, a Regina-based food manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Summerland-based Crush Dynamics and Kelowna-based Atomic47 to develop AI technology for fermentation. The two Okanagan companies will integrate AI into their production system to improve data and consistency.

The City of Calgary has announced that 34 new transit peace officers have graduated and joined the force to improve safety on the Calgary's transit system. The city council approved $9M for Calgary Transit safety in its 2026 Budget, including additional security and community outreach.

A proposed iron ore development near the Quebec–Labrador border could become one of Canada’s largest mining projects, with up to 9,600 jobs during construction and about 4,000 ongoing positions, mostly in NL. The project could generate roughly $300M annually in provincial tax revenue and $1B in GDP.

Tourism operators are saying Nova Scotia’s peak tourism season is starting strongly. Sail Grand Prix and other summer events have been supporting more than $3.7 B in revenue and 55,000 jobs in hospitality, food service, and accommodation across the province.

The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Energy Regulator identified several companies that are qualified to bid on offshore wind licenses. Nova Scotia pans to build $60B and up to 40 gigawatts worth of turbine infrastructure during the Wind West megaproject.

Prince Edward Island’s economy remains among the strongest in Canada, with GDP growth of 2.8% last year. However, the pace of economic expansion has moderated in recent years. The province has experienced a decline in newcomer arrivals, continued demographic pressures from an aging population, and ongoing challenges within its food and agriculture sectors.

Brandon-based agricultural technology company Bushel Plus is rebranding as it continues its international expansion. The firm, now called BranValt, just marked 10 years in business, during which it has grown to 30 employees.

The Columbia Basin Trust has announced two ecosystem enhancement projects in West Kootenay. The projects focus on improving the health and long-term sustainability of forests, brush land and aquatic ecosystems in Dove Hill and near Hills in the West Kootenay. These projects, along with four more across the region, will receive a total of $2.3M from the Trust.

Renaud-Bray, a chain of bookstores, is closing a second location in Québec, which was affected by an indefinite general strike. These two  closures led to around 40 employees losing their jobs.

The Ville de La Malbaie is investing $7M in developing water and road infrastructure for a new residential project. This first phase of the project is expected to be completed this fall in preparation for the sale of around 50 lots.

The District of Summerland has announced the launch of three major projects along Prairie Valley Road as part of ongoing infrastructure work. The district is undertaking a sewer expansion project, new asphalt surfacing and major road surface repaving. The project is expected to take until July 17.

The Kamsack Swimming Pool opened for the season on June 13. The pool features new management, updated staff, a new slide, and revised rates.

The City of Vancouver has increased its election budget to $9.4M for the 2026 civic election on October 17, 2026. These funds will support the expansion of available voting locations staffed by roughly 2.2K election workers.

Moving Coffee, a Richmond-based coffee roaster, opened a new coffee bar on Homer Street in Vancouver on June 12.

Interior Health has announced that recruitment has begun for the new $386M Kamloops Cancer Centre. The new centre is expected to open in 2028 and will require 18 radiation therapists.

Camp Bosco opened a 28-spot youth centre for youth with special needs in Coteau-du-Lac. This project was supported with a $7.2M investment from the provincial government.

The Estrie region is receiving over $3.2M in funding from the Government of Quebec for 13 projects aimed at improving services for the public. Specifically, the Centre d’action bénévole de Windsor & région will hire project officers to improve its services.

Les Industries GRC, a manufacturer of metal products in Saguenay, spent nearly $3M on automated equipment, which includes $2M in federal funding. The company employs around 50 people and is currently hiring.

The Government of Quebec will invest nearly $44M between 2026 and 2030 in various projects aimed at rehabilitating the Saint-Pierre lake ecosystem. UNESCO recognizes the site as a Biosphere Reserve.

Domino’s Pizza opened a new location at the Railyard Mall plaza in Merritt on June 29. The restaurant is expected to have up to five full-time and 10 part-time employees.

Sumu, a new Japanese restaurant, is opening on Burrard Street in Vancouver later in July. An exact opening date has yet to be announced.

The Sooke School District has laid off 11 early-childhood educator positions after the pilot project funding them did not receive funding as part of budget cuts. The program cost the district about $562K per year.

The District of Saanich, in partnership with the Capital Regional District, has announced the opening of 14 new electric vehicle charging stations throughout the community as part of the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Network Project. The Governments of Canada and British Columbia provided funding for this project.

The City of Courtenay has announced the opening of an $11.1M active transportation bridge connecting 6th Street to Simms Park. The project received $5.5M in funding from the Governments of Canada and British Columbia.

The Government of British Columbia has provided $127K to Mountain Munchies in Nelson through the B.C. Manufacturing Jobs Fund to build a new snack facility and expand its production. The funding will also support the creation of two new positions. The new facility is expected to begin operating by August 1.

The Government of Canada has announced $5.6M in funding through PrairiesCan for three Alberta-based projects supporting Black entrepreneurs. The projects will offer training, mentorship, and business development services to Black entrepreneurs.

The Government of Canada, in partneship with the Government of Alberta, will provide nearly $43M to school food programs across the province over 2025-2027. The Government of Alberta is also providing $500K to Apple Schools, Farm to Cafeteria Canada and Breakfast Club of Canada to identify successful school nutrition programs.

Recovery Alberta announced that it will open a Rapid Access Addiction Medicine clinic at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre’s former Safeworks supervised consumption site in Calgary. The new clinic will begin operations on July 1, at the same time a new Recovery Response Team begins operating at the centre.

The Government of Canada announced total investment of $1B over four years through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) to support community infrastructure projects. The BCSF Local Impact Stream is now open across the Prairies and includes an investment of over $176M over four years for significant infrastructure projects. The funding may include up to $1M per project for recreational facilities, parks and more.

The Government of Canada is providing up to $50M to the Tłı̨chǫ Government and Fortune Minerals to build an access road to the NICO mine near Whatì. The federal government is also allocating $733K to Cando Arctic Nexus in Enterprise, $200K to support a Tłı̨chǫ-led traditional knowledge study, and $200K to support research on caribou impacts.

The federal government is providing $1.59M to the Government of Nunavut to deliver a youth crime prevention program in Pond Inlet. The initiative will support youth aged 12 to 30 who are involved in the justice system by offering culturally grounded support focused on healing and reducing reoffending, including counselling, group therapy, and land-based activities.

Leaders in Manitoba’s construction industry are concerned about staff shortages with the recent announcements of multiple defence-related projects. There are 33 projects at 17 Wing Winnipeg scheduled to begin in the next three years, along with 9 or 10 at the Southport aerospace hub. BuildForce Canada has already projected a staffing shortfall in Manitoba due to the retirement of about 21% of the labour force by 2034.

Tahini’s, a Mediterranean restaurant franchise, is opening its first location in Winnipeg in July, employing 15-20 people. The first Winnipeg Tahini’s will be in the St. James neighbourhood, with a second location planned for Henderson Hwy in three or four months.

The Regional District Kootenay Boundary has announced that the Regional Fire Rescue has added three new wildfire trucks for Trail, Rossland and Fruitvale to help protect the region from increasing wildfire incidents.

Café William, a coffee roaster and distributor, has hired 50 people over the last three months who joined 150 employees working at its Sherbrooke plant. The new hires made it possible for the company to double its production.

Le Signature Valleyfield, a private seniors’ residence in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, is investing $21M in a second phase that involves adding 61 units by the summer of 2027. The project is expected to create around 15 jobs.

Norderra, a group of business people from Baie-Comeau, will carry out the demolition and decontamination of part of the former Baie-Comeau paper mill. The project aims to make the site ready for new industrial projects.

The regional county municipality of Manicouagan awarded a $2.33M contract to the Boréal Entrepreneur Électricien company to rehabilitate visual aids at the aéroport de Baie-Comeau. The project is scheduled to start in July 2026.

The EMD-Batimo Group, a real estate developer, will build 457 housing units for seniors on the site of Chartwell Domaine de Bordeaux, a retirement home in Québec. The $200M project is scheduled to start in the fall with the first phase of 145 units.

The Government of Quebec is investing $7.5M in finalizing plans and specifications for the expansion project at the Collège Lionel Groulx. Among other things, the project is aimed at building new student housing.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) and CityWest have partnered to provide high-speed internet to about 1.6K homes and 70 businesses on Galiano and Saturna Islands. The district will begin construction on Galiano Island later in July, while work on Saturna Island is scheduled for the fall. The Government of Canada has provided $5.27M to the project.

Loreto, a Mexican brunch restaurant and bakery, opened in early June on Union Street in Vancouver.

Rosalia Osteria, a 600 sq. ft. Italian restaurant, is opening in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood. An exact opening date is yet to be announced but is expected soon.

YYOGA, a Vancouver-based yoga studio, is opening a new location on East 13th Street in North Vancouver in June.

Alberta's railway exports of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG), from Edmonton to the U.S., are higher than normal this summer as demand for motor fuel blenders has been strong. The U.S. government eased blending restrictions following a recent surge in gas prices. About 5.2M barrels of LPG was exported by rail from Edmonton in May up from about 3.6M in the same period last year.

The Government of Alberta announced a $172.3M increase in physician compensation as part of the 2022-26 master agreement with the Alberta Medical Association. The funding will support ease pressure on accute care, improve rural recruitment, and modernize compensation.

The Government of Canada announced an investment of over $19.4M for 13 projects in Alberta. The investments will support the industrial sector in advancing clean energy innovation, improving reliability and enhancing energy efficiency.

Calan Beef Noodle restaurant is set to permanently close its downtown location on June 28.

The City of Iqaluit has approved a 116‑unit public housing development at the base of Hospital Hill. The project will include two five‑storey buildings with 58 units each.

The Hospitals of Regina Foundation has committed $4M to support pediatric research at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine. The college is recruiting a clinical researcher to lead the program, in addition to serving as a faculty member and practicing pediatrician with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

The City of Regina has approved over $8.2M to upgrade the Mosaic Stadium in preparation for hosting the 2027 Grey Cup. Work will include replacing all the LED video scoreboards and artificial turf on the field.

The Government of Canada, City of Saskatoon, and Jubilee Residences Inc. have jointly provided $11.5M to build a 36-unit independent seniors housing facility. The project is complete and residents are expected to move in shortly.

The Winnipeg Police Service is implementing a new bicycle patrol program, which will see officers patrolling trails, parks, and outdoor events across the city on e-bikes or mountain bikes. Twenty-five officers have been trained to work in the program.

Manitoba Public Insurance has opened a second temporary hail response centre in Winnipeg, and expects to offer 400 appointments per day between its two recently-opened centres. A severe storm in early June has resulted in over 25,000 claims so far, a record in the province for a single event.

Hallmark is seeking 200 paid background actors for a holiday movie filming in Morden this summer. Filming takes place July 13-17 and actors will be paid $16.25 per hour, with meals and snacks provided on set.

The Municipality of Frelighsburg is investing nearly $5M in rehabilitating its water facilities, which includes building a wastewater treatment plant. The Government of Quebec is contributing over $4.2M in funding to the project.

The Centre de robotique et de vision industrielles (CRVI) will build the Centre d’excellence en construction navale et en robotique avancée at the Cégep de Lévis. The $38M project is funded by the Government of Quebec, Ville de Lévis, and Chantier Davie.

The Government of British Columbia has selected the City of Cranbrook as one of the 24 Chronic and Repeat Offender Initiative Hubs. The city will have a dedicated coordinator to oversee cases in the region and coordinate with partner organizations.

PacifiCan has opened its Regional Innovation Ecosystems program for applications from British Columbia until September 11. Health Canada has approved around $1.1M in funding for a new Mobile Outreach Program in partnership with the City of Campbell River and the Lookout Housing Health Society. The funds support an outreach team and add three new positions in community support and safety. The team will launch as soon as the hiring process is completed.

Indigenous LIFT Collective and Smithers Airport partnered on the Give Them Wings initiative to provide Indigenous youth in the Smithers area with an opportunity to learn about working in the aviation industry. Funding for the initiative comes from various sponsors.

The Sooke School District has voted to remove early childhood educators from kindergarten classes as part of an effort to save money. The cuts will save the district about $560K.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has received approval from the Government of Canada to allow the dredging of Burrard Inlet to make room for larger oil tankers to load up from the Trans Mountain pipeline. Currently, tankers are only able to fill up to 80% of their capacity.

Value Village opened a 16K sq. ft. store on Fell Avenue in North Vancouver on June 25.

Bailey Nelson, an eyewear brand, has opened a new boutique on Granville Street in Vancouver.

Moment Energy has opened Megafactory 1, a battery energy storage manufacturing facility, in Surrey. The facility will repurpose electric vehicle batteries into energy storage systems to be used in sectors facing rising power demands. The company expects to produce 1 GWh of storage systems by 2030. Megafactory 1 is expected to create more than 100 jobs and support 1K indirect jobs.

The District of Summerland has completed an over $3.8M road improvement project on Victoria Road South. The project included upgrades to the water main system, safety improvements and additional crosswalks. The district received up to $1M from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, $500K from the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program and $31K from ICBC to support the work.

The City of Coquitlam has announced that it will soon begin construction of 10 new tennis courts at Town Centre Park. The city has approved the final design plans and expects to begin construction this summer.

The City of Maple Ridge has approved amendments to its Official Community Plan to create the North 256 Street Industrial Lands Area Plan. The industrial lands plan would create a 500-acre economic hub in northeast Maple Ridge to boost the region’s stock of industrial lands. The adoption of this plan does not approve any construction or development projects.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has provided final approval to the 150-acre Stonebridge development in Mill Bay. Limona Construction and Merdyn Group are beginning site preparation and infrastructure work immediately. The development will have nearly 1K new homes, parkland, trails, transportation upgrades and commercial amenities. The homes will open in early spring 2027.

Lime Canada is starting work on dozens of e-bike docking stations around Victoria following a successful application in response to a request for proposals from the city. Lime expects to launch the service this summer, but an exact start date has yet to be announced. Some parking space around the city will be lost to accommodate the docking stations.

PlayWright, a downtown Edmonton restaurant, has announced that it will close.

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated is expanding their manufacturing facility in Edmonton through a $20M investment and a $620,000 provincial grant. The facility  designs and manufactures microscopic sensors and components. The project is expected to create 16 permanent full-time jobs and 20 temporary construction jobs.

WestJet set ended service between Lethbridge and Calgary as of June 24 due to profitability concerns.

Clearwater County is set to invest about $17M into the hamlet of Caroline as part of its 10-year capital budget. The investment includes upgrades to roads and the wastewater lagoon, while plans for the hamlet's growth are on hold until repairs are completed. In January 2025 the community amalgamated with the Clearwater County.

The Alberta Utilities Commission has approved Greenlight Electricity Centre’s application to build a combined-cycle power generation facility in Sturgeon County. The facility would use gas and steam turbines to convert natural gas into electricity. The project expects to employe about 1,500 workers at peak construction.

The federal government is providing over $1.2M to the Yellowknife Airport through the Airports Capital Assistance Program to design and install a runway end safety area for Runway 16.

Manitoba Hydro is considering up to 11 proposals for new wind farms to be built over the next nine years, and will announce the successful proponents in spring of 2027. The Crown corporation is accepting proposals from partnerships between Indigenous nations and wind power developers.

The owner of Winnipeg’s Parlour Coffee is closing the Exchange District coffee shop in preparation for the launch of a larger project next door. The new coffee shop, Passage, will be twice the size of Parlour and include space for live music.

Long Plain First Nation has completed an expansion to its water treatment plant, part of a $122.2M federal investment in water quality on five Manitoba First Nations. The upgrades in Long Plain, located near Portage la Prairie, were estimated between $20M and $30M.

The Government of Canada is providing $3.2M in funding for three organizations supporting Black entrepreneurs in Manitoba. Recipients are the Black-Manitobans Chamber of Commerce, the Rahma Community and Youth Centre Inc., and the Amicale de la Francophonie Multiculturelle du Manitoba.

Churchill Park United Church, located in Winnipeg’s South Osborne neighbourhood, is spending $4.4M to redevelop its building as a community hub. The plan includes a 112-space child care centre, community kitchen, and multipurpose room. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026 and is expected to take about a year.

A Red River Co-op grocery store and pharmacy is set to open in the former Portage Place mall in 2029, creating 57 new jobs. True North Real Estate Development is in the process of converting the downtown Winnipeg mall into a mixed-use complex that includes health care and social services along with housing and commercial space.

The NL Liquor Corporation has issued a call for applications for new licensed cannabis retailers. The plan is to expand into rural and underserved communities, with applications being open to 15 areas around the province.

The NL government is providing $665,000 through its Operating Grant Program to open a new childcare centre in Corner Brook. The centre will be located in the Marina Redmond Centre on MUN’s Grenfell Campus, providing $10-a-day daycare for up to 30 kids.

The Government of Nova Scotia launched a three-year seafood strategy on June 24th to improve business conditions. The funding includes $1.5M for an innovation hub and $4M for market diversification in a sector that exports $2.2B and employs 19,000 people.

The Government of Canada announced an $80M program to upgrade ferry infrastructure in North Sydney. The transportation upgrade will improve freight reliability and support trade and travel between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Ville de Rimouski started construction on a $25.7M multisport stadium at the Complexe Guillaume-Leblanc. The project, carried out by Honco Bâtiments and LFG Construction, is scheduled to be completed in 2027.

The Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is building a $33M health pavilion, funded by the Government of Quebec. The pavilion, opening in 2028, will be dedicated to training and clinical services. The Cégep will aim for the pavilion to be LEED Silver certified.

The Government of Quebec is investing $8M in renovating the dam and pumping station on La Guerre river in Saint-Anicet. The project, which will start this fall, will be carried out over a three-year period.

Logir Outaouais, a community organization, inaugurated the Habiter chez soi project, a 134-unit affordable housing building in Gatineau. This $50.6M investment was funded by the governments of Quebec and Canada and the Ville de Gatineau.

The Ville de Mont-Laurier started several projects aimed at modernizing the road, water, and sewer systems. The government is contributing $3.5M in funding to the projects, which represent a total of $6.5M in investments.

The Government of Canada has announced over $16M in funding for five clean energy projects in British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories. In B.C., these funds support a feasibility study in the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, predevelopment activity for the Helhts’i Power Project near Vanderhoof and the Metlakatla Mount Hays Wind Project near Prince Rupert.

The Municipalité de Larouche is investing $2.8M in building a sports facility with $1.7M in funding from the Government of Quebec. The project is underway and is expected to be completed in November 2026.

The Government of British Columbia has created the BC Compliance and Enforcement Agency that will unify compliance and enforcement functions from several natural-resource ministries, including the Ministry of Forests and the Ministry of Environment and Parks. The new agency will be more efficient and provide timely functions to projects.
